SplitCanoe - The two piece cedar strip canoe - About Me
Hi. My name is Jim Carsten and I have been doing woodworking for 30 plus years, and cedar strip canoe craft for 15 years. I belong to Eastern Michigan Woodworkers. This is a group that meets to share our knowledge and love of woodworking. One of the clubs goals is to build toys for the less fortunate for Christmas. I retired from skilled trades at General Motors and now devote my time to woodworking, and canoe building. Since the wood trim takes the most time and is what sets my canoes apart, my woodworking skills have served me well in producing beautiful crafted canoes. My wife and I like to travel and fish so being able to take a beautiful canoe along with us on our trips makes this possible. While traveling out west last year we had a lot of people stopping us to see the Splitcanoe, some even followed us around Estes Park Colorado, Cody Wyoming, Custer State Park S Dakota, and Jackson Wyoming until we stopped so that they could see it and talk to me. Going through Yellowstone Nat. Park we were amazed at the number of people who stopped to talk, and they were amazed when they found out that YES it is ONE canoe and that it doesn't leak!! We were very fortunate to have met so many nice and interesting people. Jim Carsten
